Our Purpose

The purpose of The Hunter Centre is to improve the quality of life for those living with all forms of dementia.

We do this in a number of ways:

Through our safe and welcoming Day Care Centre in Haslemere we provide care, companionship and stimulation for people living with a dementia diagnosis. The variety of activities we undertake are aimed at improving the health and well-being of our clients, reducing their social isolation and loneliness and contributing to their physical as well as mental health.
We support families and those looking after someone with dementia, whose lives change too as a result of the illness. As well as giving them some care respite with peace of mind, we run an informal Carer Support Group, the Welcome Club, where they can chat to others in a similar position and have access to legal and dementia care professionals.
We aim to provide a useful source of information and advice on looking after someone with dementia. Our highly trained staff have years of experience in dementia care and are always happy to offer support.

Dementia Action Week,

Monday 13th May – Dementia Bus,

Haslemere High Street Carpark. 10am – 4.30pm

This is a simulator that gives a brief insight into what a person with a diagnosis of dementia may experience. Lasts approx. 10 minutes.

The Hunter Centre is quite simply, amazing. The staff without exception are wonderful - always smiling, helpful and caring and my mother in law really loves attending. She goes the maximum 4 days a week - I only wish they were open at the weekends too! The activities they organise are varied, engaging and fun and she always comes home with a smile on her face.

As a wife and full-time carer for my 75 year old husband who has Mixed Alzheimer’s Dementia/Vascular, The Hunter Centre is my lifeline.
The caring, friendly, efficient team members make my husband’s two days at the centre safe and happy and gives him other people to interact with. I can’t speak more highly of Elaine and her team. Nothing is too much trouble for them and they do all they can to fill the days with fun and laughter whilst trying to stimulate the clients with activities. They work tirelessly to fundraise to enable the clients to have a better and more fulfilling experience.
Without this facility, and I know I speak for other families, our lives would be very much harder.

We have been using The Hunter Centre for almost two years now.
They provide an extremely valuable service by providing a safe and stimulating environment for their guests. Everyone is treated as an individual according to their needs.
Our friend very much enjoys her time at the facility. It helps to keep her socially involved with others and she very much enjoys the group activities as well as visiting musicians, support animals and the local church group. It helps her with her cognitive impairments and she loves reminiscing with others in her own age group.

My Godmother has been a weekly participant at The Hunter Centre and I can only say how wonderful it has been. It has given me a little space and time that I sorely needed as the disease progressed. The staff are supportive of both of us. I have been given access to a lot of information and support talks; for my godmother, unfailing kindness and wonderful care. It’s given her more structured time to do activities and keeps her mind busier and more engaged than is possible all the time at home. Her afternoons of music she so enjoyed. A wonderful place!
Anyone who has dementia should have the opportunity to attend The Hunter Centre. The care and commitment of all the staff and volunteers is amazing. They take the time to learn about each and every one who goes there and their families too. They serve good home cooked lunches and the activities and days out are well thought through and organised.
