A day at The Hunter Centre

We feel it is important for the person with dementia to feel secure, supported and have a sense of well being.  Each client is an individual who often has an interesting background they can share and it is for us to make them feel as comfortable being with us as possible. This is done by finding out about their life history, their likes and dislikes, daily routines and emotional  and physical needs.

Each day there will be various activities and we seek to encourage socialisation but everyone has a choice as to what they join in with. These activities are led by our fully trained and experienced staff. We also welcome outside entertainment including musicians and a mobile farm!

A two course hot lunch is served at 12.30 pm. There is a choice of meal and by working with the adjoining hospital, catering for special diets is not a problem. This is followed by tea or coffee.

After lunch there will be more activities followed by afternoon tea. A crossword and word games usually finish the day.

Socialisation

We aim to provide a range of activities but these are often geared towards who attends rather than to a strict timetable. Lunch is always enjoyed and eaten with other clients accompanied by members of staff at round tables.

Group activities include

  • Board games

  • Reminiscence discussions

  • Sing a longs

  • Cookery

  • Flower arranging

  • Gardening

  • Seated exercise

  • Quizzes and Word games

  • Arts and Crafts

  • Discussions with outside speakers from local organisations such as Haslemere Museum, Rural life centre and local garden centres

Other Activities

  • Books and games are always available.

  • Memory books are encouraged for each client with photographs of their past to discuss with staff and volunteers.

  • The garden is ideal for calm and relaxed walking or just sitting enjoying the environment

  • Manicures and pedicures are available at the Centre by arrangement

  • Outside musicians sometimes join us with a recital

  • We have visits from a mobile farm and Hydestile wildlife each year.

Outside Visits

Dependent on staffing, transport, weather and our clients abilities we intend to have visits for coffee and cake at a garden centre or local venue or lunch at Haslewey perhaps followed by a film.

Hire the Hall

There are many times when the Hall is not being used by our clients and it is available to hire for agreed functions. Please contact the Operations Manager, Elaine Clement for details, making your request clear. The hire charge is £15 per hour or £17.50 to include the kitchen facilities.
