The Hunter Centre is sad to announce the passing of Dr Anne Hunter OBE.

Dr Hunter was one of our Patrons and Honorary Vice President, and a local neighbour too. She devoted much of her life to dementia studies and supporting those with the disease.

As an Associate Specialist in Neurology at the RSCH & Holy Cross Hospital, Haslemere, Dr Hunter developed a specialist interest in dementia in all its forms. In 1979 she co-founded The Alzheimer’s Society. In the mid-90s, she was approached by two Haslemere Health Centre ‘Nurse Visitors’ to the elderly who were concerned how best to support those living with dementia in our area. This led to the creation of a Haslemere branch of The Alzheimer's Society and then The Hunter Centre as we know it today, which was named in her honour.

A Thanksgiving service was held to celebrate Dr Hunter’s extraordinary life on Tuesday 12th April 2022 at St Bartholomew’s Church, Haslemere
