This simulator gives you the opportunity to find out what its like to live with dementia and the difficulties some may experience. Lasts approx 15mins.

Sunday 25th May - Hidden Gardens of Grayshott

This is a biennial event where the villagers of Grayshott open their gardens to the public.

MP Greg Stafford stopped to say Hello after he had officially opened the new Community Orchard in Grayshott.

There was plenty to see and do beside the gardens. From admiring the villages’ two allotment sites, to teas with home made cakes, and even the chance to get up close to the village forge and fire engine. The money raised is used to fund various projects around the village from the hanging baskets along the high street, to creating garden areas for the various clubs and organisations within the village.

Many congratulations to Malcolm Carter, former founding Trustee and Ambassador of The Hunter Centre, who has been awarded a BEM in the New Year Honours list !!!!

Malcolm is a Past Mayor of Haslemere but so much of what he has contributed to our community over many years has been done in the “background” and without the recognition that more public contributions generate.

Chiddingfold Surgery’s first ‘Living Well’ Event

Two of The Hunter Centre Trustees attended the Chiddingfold Surgery’s Living Well Event on Wednesday 7th August 2024, arranged by the surgery’s Frailty Care Coordinator. The event was well attended by both the public and other support services. Talks were given by Senior Partner Dr Daren Watts, who highlighted the extra demand for appointments being placed on GPs and the services now being provided which do not need a GPs input; a volunteer from the parents participation group demonstrating the NHS App which not only provides information to the user but can help save GPs time; Hoppa travel who can provide door to door transport locally and up to the Royal Surrey hospital; and Non injurious falls responders who will make a visit with their state of the art piece of equipment, should you fall and not be able to get up. We are sure those attended found it a very helpful event and we were pleased to be able to tell more people about what The Hunter Centre does and encourage them to visit and talk to us about their concerns for friends and family with dementia.

County Club’s Golf Day at West Surrey Golf Club

Thursday 25th July

The Hunter Centre were delighted to support The County Club’s recent charity golf day. Held at West Surrey Golf Club, it was in support of the North Guildford Food Bank. Our team comprised Treasurer Dickie Knight, past Trustee Malcolm Carter, Alison Hays, past ladies Captain at Hindhead who supported us so generously with her fundraising last year, and Carol Knight, a last-minute replacement. This was all under the watchful eye of fellow Hunter Centre Trustee, team leader and event photographer Martin Coakley, a member of the County Club , from whom the invitation to join the day and do a little light networking originated.

The day started well and each team member was making a solid contribution until our 13th hole when the heavens opened – to call it a monsoon would not be an exaggeration. After about ten minutes it eased and we completed our round, but no amount of waterproof gear would have been enough to keep us dry. Our team score was respectable, and after a carvery lunch we left, having had a fun day in a good cause.
